The Detroit Education Cybersecurity Collective held an information session to discuss the purpose and goals of the collective. The collective is a user-driven group aimed at empowering educational institutions to collaborate with fellow institutions on cybersecurity. We will be hosting monthly in-person meetings in Detroit designed specifically for IT and cybersecurity professionals. These gatherings will provide a collaborative space to address the critical challenges impacting the education sector. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange insights, share strategies, and work together on innovative solutions to create safer and more secure educational environments.

Learn: Provide resources, workshops, and expert insights tailored to the unique cybersecurity challenges faced by schools, colleges, and universities.
Innovate: Promote forward-thinking solutions to secure educational environments and prepare students for careers in cybersecurity.

Hold the first in-person meeting to introduce group members, identify common challenges, and facilitate conversations.
Provide an open forum for discussing best practices, threat intelligence, and compliance requirements specific to the education sector.
Establish a mission-driven end-user group dedicated to collaboratively addressing cybersecurity challenges, fostering mutual advancement.
Create a network of support and collaboration for ongoing cybersecurity efforts in local schools and universities.
The collective discussed key benefits we aim to achieve. Attendees expressed a desire to tackle several challenges, including:
Sharing experiences with cybersecurity incidents
Exploring preventative tools and processes
Learning how others are advancing their cybersecurity strategies
Developing playbooks for handling cybersecurity threats
Creating policy examples to enhance overall security planning
Understanding trends in cyber insurance
The collective will be hosting their first in-person meeting in late January, additional details will be shared in the New Year.
